DnB Duo's Source Direct Aspirations Crippled by Weed Shortage

Vancouver, BC — Local drum & bass duo Echo Ritual set out to channel the raw, cinematic menace of Source Direct. Instead, they run out of weed & made a squeaky-clean track by mistake.

“We wanted that dark, untouchable mystique,” said Dalton "Ritual" Carter, adjusting his Bluetooth vape. “But somehow, everything keeps sounding… fun.”

Despite their best efforts, their breaks remained too polished, their basslines too engineered.

“We tried rolling out a moody intro like The Crane, but somehow it ended up sounding like Netsky,” admitted Jane "Echo" Daniels, looking dejected.

Not Enough Serious Faces, Too Much Oat Milk

Beyond the music, the duo struggled to capture Source Direct’s aura of mystery.

“They just look too friendly,” said one promoter who declined to book them. “Proper jungle heads should look like they’ve seen some shit. These two look like they have been cosplaying Mad Max.”

A failed photoshoot sealed their fate. “We accidentally smiled,” said Dalton. “That’s when we knew we’d fucked up.”After hours of trying to dirty up their mix, the duo gave up.

“We spent three weeks making it sound ‘raw’ again,” said Jane. “Then we hated it. I knew we shouldn't have fucked with that 90% sativa strain. I'm sure once we have at least an OZ. of indica the music will produce itself”

After a weekend of trying, the duo have now decided to pivot to lo-fi house, a genre where overproduction is impossible.
